Level Design

The level design was what we used to create the game's progression. I wanted to create an environment where we designers had enough control to give the player objectives and challenges, while also presenting the player with enough tools to be creative while solving these challenges.

I decided to used linear level design where the player enters an enclosed area and receives a task to complete to be able to reach the next area.

I structured a basic flow for the levels like this:

  1. The Player enters an area

  2. Get’s an objective, i.e “Slay all enemies”, “Traverse the area”, “Solve this puzzle” etc.

  3. When the objective is completed a new area opens up and the player can proceed.

  4. Repeat

This level structure allowed us to know exactly what tools and obstecles the player had access to at any given moment, which gave us control over the chaotic nature of this game. Having seperate areas like this also gave us room to create an interesting and varying playing fields.
